i really want to dye my hair so that it has a red tint to it. i DO NOT want red hair. more like a deep red/maroon kind of tint to it. but, i have brown hair. not DARK brown.. not LIGHT brown. just.. brown. should i go for a darker brown %26amp; then after a couple of weeks put a red color in it? i've wanted my hair to have a red tint to it for a while. but, i've been kind of scared because i didn't really have much of tan going on.. now, i do.. so, i think it would look good! i know to use a semi-permanent dye, but, do you think i should do the darker brown first.. then to the reddish color? help.

ok heres my advice on dying hair:

honestly, do it ONLY if you REALLY want to, otherwise youll regret it once the dye is out and your hair isnt as nice as it was before.

i say, if you really wana do it, go with a auburn color with slight red highlights i have brown hair too, and since a got a bodywave ive had a slight redish tint to it..... but im not saying go get a freaking bodywave those suckers are expencive, but im saying go with a shade a bit darker than yours with red highlights. ask a hair stylist too... thatl help.

No, you won't need to dye your hair a dark brown first, unless you plan on dyeing your hair dark brown and putting a red rinse over the top.

I recommend:

You should be able to find a red-ish brown coloured hair dye (supermarket, pharmacist) that can go straight over your existing hair colour to achieve the result you're after.

If in doubt, I recommend trying a red/brown or auburn RINSE over your hair and see how that works out. This will only last a week (at most) and will give you enough time to decide how you feel about the colour and you'll then have a better idea abotu what to shop around for when you want to get a permanent or semi-permanent dye.
