by the way i went from having red hair (originally) to brown to blonde to brown to black. so, as you can probably tell my hair isn't the healthiest. but the hair on the top of my head is a lot healthier than the bottom, thats why i think it would be okay to bleach it or whatever. i just want some opinions.

Why the heck not! If you want to dye your hair than dye it. You only have one life, so if you really want to dye it blonde then do it. My hair is naturally blonde and i didnt like it so i dyed it from blonde to black, to dark brown to light brown to reddish brown, and my hair isnt all that bad. Just have fun with it. LOL if you lose it just wear a wig. There are so many products out there for hair, so if its really dry you just need to find the right product for your type of hair. Explore, dye it blonde, dye it purple and pink. Do whatever your heart desires.lol

Mayonnaise. I know it sounds silly, but seriously, half an hour of mayo in your hair before showering and washing it normally helps so much.

Make sure you use a deep conditioner, I'm sure you're using it already, but make sure you get the one made for color damaged hair. Don't shampoo everyday as it will only make things worse and think about looking into a leave-in conditioner.

I also suggest you use a good conditioner in that time like VO5 hot oil.

I wash it and deep condition my hair and then I blow dry it along with some hot oil treatment and my hair comes out like a beautiful china dolls hair everytime and my hair is dark dark brown and its can be full of body and straight when ever I do that style and it last until I wash It out. So your blond hair has nuttin on black hair. At least our hair does not turn green and breakage issues and limpness. I don't know. I'm kind of a red-head, (a reddish head) lol, mix of blonde, red, and brown, with blonde/red highlights. Weird, but natural color lol, and I don't have red hair donwn there. I think very few red heads have red hair down there. Just ignore people who say this. Tell them to leave you alone. They are just being stupid and trying to be funny. Both my brother and I have dark auburn hair. Lately though we've noticed that our hair is lightening to a more coppery reddish color and less of the brown. His beard to is completely red in spots but dark brown in others its quite strange.

Our mom had red hair before it turned gray and our dad has black brown hair (but his mom had red hair too). I'm 20 and my brother is 17.

Maybe a change in the hardness of your water. Since your hair is lightening, probably a change from harder water to softer. Hard water leaves mineral deposits on hair that darken it.

It could also be genetic, my hair went from auburn to darker reddish brown at that age. Though water hardness was a factor in that too.

Hair generally darkens for a year or so before it turns gray, but that doesn't seem likely to be what's going on here.

Have you switched shampoos (maybe a new one removes old mineral deposits), bought a water softener, moved to a new area with softer water, done maintenance on a water softener in your home? Maybe even could be a change in your town's water if you live where you have town water.

honestly, do it ONLY if you REALLY want to, otherwise youll regret it once the dye is out and your hair isnt as nice as it was before.

i say, if you really wana do it, go with a auburn color with slight red highlights i have brown hair too, and since a got a bodywave ive had a slight redish tint to it..... but im not saying go get a freaking bodywave those suckers are expencive, but im saying go with a shade a bit darker than yours with red highlights. ask a hair stylist too... thatl help.

No, you won't need to dye your hair a dark brown first, unless you plan on dyeing your hair dark brown and putting a red rinse over the top.

I recommend:

You should be able to find a red-ish brown coloured hair dye (supermarket, pharmacist) that can go straight over your existing hair colour to achieve the result you're after.

If in doubt, I recommend trying a red/brown or auburn RINSE over your hair and see how that works out. This will only last a week (at most) and will give you enough time to decide how you feel about the colour and you'll then have a better idea abotu what to shop around for when you want to get a permanent or semi-permanent dye.

your colorist will tell you how often you should color safely. there is something called hair mascara that will fill in your roots. red dye molecules are HUGE compared to our hairs, thats why it comes out so easy. use shampoo specifically for red hair.
