Is there a way to make my hair redder without a hair dying kit or a salon?

My hair is light brown/red and i want to make it even redder... possibly darker but i don't have a hair dying kit because i don't have time to get one and im not going to a salon. is there ANY way to make my hair this way just naturally with household things?

it isn't possible. henna is "natural" but it's still a hair color. and it is impossible to know what color it will become. you could try Kool-aid and water rinse on your hair. the red color in the drink mix will stain the hair...but if your hair is blonde it will become pink.

usually not it ussually the other way around..u dye ur hair red and it comes out pink...it depends on what brand u pick too..if its really cheap it may not be the color u wnat but i doubt it will come out red...probably more orarge if anything..Hope I helped!

The pink is to light to show up in your hair. you will have to bleach it. semi permanent colors do not lift before they deposit the color so it will not work. try taking it to the salon and have them put it in. it'd be a cool look for spring and then when it fades out you'll have some blond streaks in your hair that u can keep adding diff. colors into

red and orange are warm tones pink is in a totally different category...it must be a product that lifts and deposits at the same time remember the orange in ur hair will change the color of the pink dye...so i would suggest not even trying this one

It's time to change my hair again. Suggestions?

I've got naturally curly hair that's almost black. For the past couple years I've been getting it highlighted and dyed all over with varying shades of red, so now the top of my hair is a brownish/dark blond color (because the stylist has to bleach my hair out first to get the dye to show up, because my hair's so dark) while the bottom's black. I'm tired of the reddish/blondish look and I'm thinking of doing something wilder. Besides that, I've got rosacea and otherwise pale skin, so I don't need to emphasize the redness of my face with even redder hair.

I'm thinking of putting in a couple thick blue or purple chunks next. Can they actually do that in your typical neighborhood salon, or am I going to have to go to one of the pricier joints like Regis or something? About how much would something like that cost (my hair is a little past my shoulders, but very thick)?

And if any of you have done something similarly crazy with your hair, how'd it turn out and how long did it last?

I would recommend getting a few foils put into the top to see how you would like it first then to do a partial or even a full foil all over. Do not listen to your friends because previously colored hair is very porous and going darker can be harder to lighten. Also previously colored hair will grab color and turn it an ugly darker color that you will not like. Try the few foil blonde highlights first and they usually are inexpensive. Where I work, we have a special going on where you can get 5 foils for $3.00 each. If you have a Hair Cuttery near you, that is where you should go to get this special. then you can decide whether or not you want more. You can even get it toned to a honey color.

youre going to think im crazy but with your eye color and skin color, black hair can look amazing!! if i had blue eyes and light skin i would dye my hair black because its so stunning, and if you get the right tone (no blue or anything unnatural) it can keep from looking gothic like you might think.

You dont want something too dark because if you do it will make you look even more pale. But for some reason like a very light brunette kind of color will bring out your skin.

Also, try tanning or using fake tan spray.

I don't know. I'm kind of a red-head, (a reddish head) lol, mix of blonde, red, and brown, with blonde/red highlights. Weird, but natural color lol, and I don't have red hair donwn there. I think very few red heads have red hair down there. Just ignore people who say this. Tell them to leave you alone. They are just being stupid and trying to be funny. Why the heck not! If you want to dye your hair than dye it. You only have one life, so if you really want to dye it blonde then do it. My hair is naturally blonde and i didnt like it so i dyed it from blonde to black, to dark brown to light brown to reddish brown, and my hair isnt all that bad. Just have fun with it. LOL if you lose it just wear a wig. There are so many products out there for hair, so if its really dry you just need to find the right product for your type of hair. Mayonnaise. I know it sounds silly, but seriously, half an hour of mayo in your hair before showering and washing it normally helps so much.

Make sure you use a deep conditioner, I'm sure you're using it already, but make sure you get the one made for color damaged hair. Don't shampoo everyday as it will only make things worse and think about looking into a leave-in conditioner.

I would not do anything to your hair till it has recovered 100%

I also suggest you use a good conditioner in that time like VO5 hot oil.

ok, so i've dyed my hair many times. i've attempted dark brown all 3 times. i use suave hair color shampoo, but it washes out. i use permanent dye. i get it out of a box from walmart. i have natural red hair, but want to have medium brown hair. i also may want some blonde highlights. the length of my hair is about a couple inches past my shoulders and my hair is thick. should i just get it done professionally? how much will it cost for the highlights and coloring? what salons do you reccommend?

You can do both at home. Walmart has some dyes that come with a highlight kit. If you are going to do the highlights yourself, make sure to use a highlighting cap and a buddy, someone that can help you get all the hair out of the back holes of the cap. Make sure you dont have any other hair products in your hair before coloring and follow the instructions, you should be fine.

coloring is really not hard to do by yourself, though i don't know what would have made your first dye job wash out, but they will after around 25-30 washes, eventually fade and seem to 'wash out'.

to do it yourself, just buy a box of coloring, you shouldn't need two, unless a stylist recommends it. just follow the directions and cover your hair completely with the coloring agent. then, if all goes as planned, have the highlights put in at a salon.

In my area it would be 50-75 for your one process color, and 70+ for your highlights depending on texture/length and technique. If you can do a carmelizing, high and low lights, instead of one process plus highlights, and achieve the desired look, you may save some money! Carmelizing usually starts at 90+. Good luck!

How often can I color my hair, and what do I do about my roots in the meantime?

I color my hair a dark auburn-red color that is quite attractive when the color is fresh and for a couple of weeks thereafter. When my brown and gray roots start becoming noticeable, however, it doesn't look quite as hot. Moreover, because red hair color tends to fade more noticeably than other hair colors, I almost always have to freshen up my overall color (by spreading the dye around to the ends for the last 10 minutes) when I touch-up my roots.

I wish I could color every 3-4 weeks, but I'm afraid to color my hair more often than every 5-6 weeks. Is coloring hair more frequently than that damaging? How often can you safely color your hair?

What can you do about roots in the meantime? Can you rotate permanent with non-permanent dye? Are there any good products you can use to temporarily color roots? (I apply a tinted toner called "Stay Red" to visible roots after washing my hair, but it's hard to apply. I wish they had a mascara-type applicator.)

your colorist will tell you how often you should color safely. there is something called hair mascara that will fill in your roots. red dye molecules are HUGE compared to our hairs, thats why it comes out so easy. use shampoo specifically for red hair.

You can just touch up your roots every 2-3 weeks, but to completely color it I would say between 6-8 weeks.

well you should be okay to just do your roots every 4 weeks i do just dont color the rest of your hair because it could dry it out. well you do your roots just get it on the roots growth. you shouldnt have to do the rest of your hair at all i dont. pluse use color care shampoo. i like loreal preferance because it has a conditioner so you can use it. helps your hear last longer color.

there are 10 levels of color scheme in hair coloring. (we don't say dye: you dye your clothes, you COLOR your hair), and burgundy is the level before the color bleached out to red, then orange, ...it's get lighter. when you color it burgundy for example, as time goes, it'll get lighter, fade out.

as always, if you color your hair, have to keep it in good maintenance every 4/6 weeks i believe, especial in the red level. so, when your color start to fade, or you have new growth, have to treat it again. and also use special color shampoo/cond.

there is John Frieda Red color-treatments products at the store that is good color-treated hair, comes in blond, burgundy , etc.

Lightening hair involved some sort of chemical bleachin process and if your hair has any red or gold tones in it, bleaching will give you gold results. Most highlighting or dye kits bought at the store are very basic and the colors are not blended with the individual hair and results in mind.

If you do want to lighten your hair successfully, especially if you are a darker brown, just go to a salon. They specially mix color and chemical activator for each client.

I recommend sticking to highlights if you want a signifigantly lighter color in your hair. All-over color that is signifigantly lighter than your natural hair is hard to maintain and is hard on your hair. Or, you could try going just a shade or two lighter to brighten up your face.

Both my brother and I have dark auburn hair. Lately though we've noticed that our hair is lightening to a more coppery reddish color and less of the brown. His beard to is completely red in spots but dark brown in others its quite strange.

Our mom had red hair before it turned gray and our dad has black brown hair (but his mom had red hair too). I'm 20 and my brother is 17.

It it normal for haircolor to just change like that?

I mean were not little anymore, and were both past the puberty thing and we haven't been out in the sun any more than we usually are. Also, we're both healthy and relatively stress free.

Maybe a change in the hardness of your water. Since your hair is lightening, probably a change from harder water to softer. Hard water leaves mineral deposits on hair that darken it.

It could also be genetic, my hair went from auburn to darker reddish brown at that age. Though water hardness was a factor in that too.

Hair generally darkens for a year or so before it turns gray, but that doesn't seem likely to be what's going on here.

Have you switched shampoos (maybe a new one removes old mineral deposits), bought a water softener, moved to a new area with softer water, done maintenance on a water softener in your home? Maybe even could be a change in your town's water if you live where you have town water.

For shoes, I would go with black velvet or suede pumps. If you're wearing gold jewelry, I would add gold shoe clips.

For Makeup:

Eyes: A nice deep brown with gold flecks from lash to just above crease. Then an earthy taupe with gold flecks to brow. A deeper brown liner, powder or liquid, along top lashes only. Black mascara on top and bottom lashes.

firstly get a hairdresser but if you do have the urge to go about it yourself then make sure you put a dye with a red colour in it on top of the hair that has been bleached you will need to wait at least 2 days before you dye on the bleached hair . .The reason for a reddish color is putting a bit of pigment back on the hair .

My college roommate had black hair and it looked absolutely beautiful with red highlights. You definately should have it professionally done. I think that you have to have the part of your hair that will be red bleached first, but they use foils so that only the parts that are being dyed red get bleached--not your whole head. Go to your hair salon and see a stylist for a consultation he/she should be able to explain the procedure in detail and tell you how your hair will react to the different chemicals.

If you don't want to use bleach, then use a high lift color to get the same effect without the damage that bleach can do.
