My hair is very dark brown and i want to dye it very subtle red should i go for a lighter dye becaus

natural hair colour? I'll do a test patch first obviously instead of slamming it all on and seeing how it turns out. Any body got any examples of hiar dye that might be good?

Try using Henna. Once you try it, you will be amazed and wish you had tried it sooner! It leaves dark brown hair with red highlights and creates a beautiful auburn color. It looks very pretty and healthy afterwards. Henna is great for the hair - it's all natural, it's lasts a very long time and it actually conditions your hair. Firstly, you need to make sure that you get 100% pure "body art quality" Henna - nothing with metallic salt compounds. And before doing anything, be sure to do a strand test as you mentioned by harvesting some hair from your hairbrush and dying it to see how it will turn out. In my opinion, Henna is the best dye for redheads or reddish hair. I use it because I hate the toxic chemicals that are found in regular hair dyes, and because the color always turns out so beautiful. I'm a redhead, so my shade from using Henna is more fiery than what yours will turn out to be - Henna doesn't lighten the hair, it just deposits color. If you're looking to lighten your hair, you may need to go to a salon first.

But I can't say enough good things about Henna. It's funny how we don't hear too much about it, or if we do hear about it, we hear horror stories!! But when used correctly, I can honestly say that it turns out great. I have found that it is nothing short of fantastic!

Here is a link to a free book with detailed instructions on how to use Henna. Good luck!

Lightening is tricky. I would recommend going to a salon.

If you must do it yourself, start with a good brand- Loreal- and stick to one that is only a shade or two lighter than your natural

color. Don't start out too drastic- you can always lighten it more later if you choose, but it is difficult to undo a mistake.

You should stay away from shades that say reddish blond or light red(dish) blond because they have a higher content of peroxide that will only turn it a bozo orange color.

You say your hair is dark brown, not sure if it's a brunette dark brown or the dark brown shades we know from the color wheel.

I've had clients in the hair salon with these shades and they were happy when we'd apply either a medium or dark auburn permanent color.

If they wanted a red shade %26amp; still afraid of too much change,I'd pull them thru a frost cap and they'd have red strands of highlights.

Definitely do a test strand from underneath on back of hair.

The boxes of color should show you pretty close to your end result if your natural hair shade is used as the sample, but still you cannot go by that chart.

Remember-you can go to a beauty school/college and let someone else do it for a fraction of the cost %26amp; they will have instructors advising %26amp; watching every step of the way.

Good Luck
